Offline-first: building for teams with no signal

Field teams can't wait for connectivity. Offline-first isn't a feature — it's an architecture decision that changes everything downstream.

In the office, connectivity is a constant. In the field, it is the exception. Software that assumes a signal fails exactly where it is needed most.

Treat the network as optional

Offline-first means the app writes everything to a local database first and syncs in the background. Forms, maps and reference data are cached on-device, so a capture never blocks on a request.

Sync is the hard part

  • Queue writes and retry automatically when signal returns
  • Resolve conflicts with a clear, deterministic rule
  • Keep sync incremental so large datasets stay fast
No double data entry. Records arrive from the field already structured, and dispatch sees the day as it happens.
